Press Release Summary: Annual Student Fashion Show Showcases the Hollywood Glamour
of Sustainable Designs.

Press Release Body: Los Angeles (May 14, 2008) - With the theme, "Eco & Vine", the
concept of environmental awareness and the glamour of Hollywood intersecting with
one another through fashion, design students at the California Design College have
created sustainable designs that are fashionable and wearable and also help to
reduce waste, and ultimately, our carbon footprint. Additionally, in the spirit of
environmental awareness
and respect for our planet the entire stage set is covered in raw canvas fabric that
will be re-used by students in fundamental construction classes to produce shopping
bags. The bags will be used instead of environmentally harmful plastic shopping
bags. In keeping with the theme, the venue for this annual student fashion show is
the Avalon Hollywood on Vine Street in Hollywood. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at
7pm on June 7, 2008. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
For this fashion show, 21 student fashion designers were required to follow an
earth-friendly criteria. To accomplish this, some designers chose to find outdated,
post-consumer garments from thrift stores to personal closets, and to then
deconstruct them to create something entirely new while others used organic fabrics
and dyes, as well as recycled trims to create their garments. Some designers went
even further to \"go green\" by recycling nontraditional materials such as plastics
and paper bags in their designs. By
choosing to create sustainable clothing, the designers are demonstrating how the
fashion industry can do its part to preserve our planet for generations to come.
This year's featured fashion design students who used the eco-friendly criteria are:
Justine Babb, Richard Berrrueta, Anita Chugarnak, Lillian Dennis, Kristin Don, Erick
Garcia, Stacy Godwin, Yuki Haya, Cesar Hurtado, Tiffany Johnson, Gina Karris, Liz
Kok, Linda Miller, Sonia Moreno, Kelsea Neal, Fabiana Pigna, Antoinette Ransom,
Paris Smith, Altha St. Clair, Brittany Stocker, Soyla Tostado.
Tickets for "Eco & Vine" may be purchased for $25.00 ($15.00 for students with valid
ID) by calling 213-251-3636. Visa, MasterCard, American Express are accepted.
